BENGALURU: The city traffic police have planned to ask the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to run more buses through Avenue Road to reduce traffic congestion in front of the Puttanna Chetty Town Hall in the city.

Avenue Road is a busy shopping street and many times, it is difficult for people to walk along the road or even to take their vehicles. The traffic police department have now decided to increase the number of BMTC buses on Avenue Road to solve the congestion near Town Hall junction.

Avenue Road connects KR Market Road and Mysore Bank Circle.

At present, two BMTC buses are plying in the morning through Avenue Road, but the traffic police are planning to ask BMTC to divert more bus services to reduce the traffic during peak hour. The Town Hall junction is a major one that connects KR Market Road to Mysore Bank Circle. But the traders have expressed strong opposition to this as the road is very narrow.

“It should be easy for people to move on the street for shopping and there is no point in bringing more buses. This is a busy place and an important commercial hub in Bengaluru. It will be difficult for citizens and traders. In the morning hours, two buses take this road,” says Govind, a trader on Avenue Road.
