BENGALURU: Following the incident where a three-year-old child died in an accident during checks by the traffic police near Maddur, the Bengaluru city police have taken precautionary measure to ensure such incidents do not occur.
City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, who held a video conference with senior police officers, including police inspectors, laid out standard operating procedures to be followed by police personnel during checks for drunk driving and during nakabandi.
As per the SOPs, the police personnel should compulsorily wear jackets with reflective stickers and the barricades should also have reflectors. The barricades should be put up in such a way that vehicles pass through in a zigzag manner and the personnel should behave mildly with the police.Those travelling with children should be taken aside and any issue should be sorted out immediately, the police commissioner said.
Three-year-old Harshita, on the way to a hospital with her mother and uncle, died after the police stopped their motorcycle during a routine traffic check near Swarnasandra on the old Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on Monday. Following the incident, Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi had ordered the suspension of three assistant sub-inspectors of police.
