New Delhi: Bangalore South Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Surya has received the ‘Best Debutant Parliamentarian of the year’ award at the fourth edition of the Lokmath Parliamentary awards function 2022 in Delhi on Tuesday. The awards were provided in eight different categories to outstanding members of Parliament for their contribution.
The MP’s performance as a first-time parliamentarian was noted as being the second youngest MP in the 17th Lok Sabha, elected at the age of 28. He has raised issues of regional and national importance in Parliament and advocated for India’s data sovereignty by being a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology & the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, a statement said, and added that he has given equal focus to legislative, deliberative and developmental roles.
Tejasvi Surya has raised issues of national and public importance in 26 debates of Parliament since taking oath on June 17, 2019, and has actively participated in all sessions throughout the year. He has raised 308 questions on the floor of the House since the inception of 17th Lok Sabha, covering every ministry and issues of national and international importance.
Other parliamentarians who received the awards in the previous editions were Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar and Meenakshi Lekhi for Best Debut Woman Parliamentarian Award, MP Nishikant Dubey for Outstanding Parliamentarian Award. At Tuesday’s function, Derek O’Brien received the Best Parliamentarian Award while Bhartruhari Mahtab received the Lifetime Achievement Award among others.
