BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) is planning to implement smart parking on some major roads in the central part of the city. The corporation expects an annual revenue of Rs 3 crore with the introduction of the new parking system.
Central City Corporation Commissioner G Jagadish said they have decided to implement smart parking on 23 roads which are major hotspots in central Bengaluru and tenders have already been floated for 23 roads. “We had identified 100 roads for smart parking and called for tenders. We have finalised the tender for 23 roads and we expected about Rs 3 crore annual revenue from it”, he said.
Further, he said there has not been much response for the other 77 roads despite calling for tenders thrice. “In the coming days, we are thinking of implementing smart parking through the corporation itself on these roads. The smart parking is being implemented only on arterial and sub-arterial roads. Depending on the success of the smart parking on 23 roads, we expect bidders to come forward for the other roads too”, he said.
The commissioner said the parking fee is determined by the length of the parking space, location and other factors. “This will put and end to overnight parking or permanent parking on roads. The GBA has already published the draft policy and needs to be approved by the government after objections are received”, Commissioner Jagadish said.
Once the smart parking is implemented, vehicle users can identify smart parking space through mobile app and park their vehicles. Currently, smart parking is being implemented on 23 roads and there is a plan to introduce it on 73 more roads. However, no one is participating in tender for smart parking on 73 roads as there may be financial loss.
Some of the roads where smart parking is being implemented include Commercial Street, Safina Plaza Road, Dickenson Road, Dispensary Road, Ibrahim Sahib Street, Kamaraj Road, Miller’s Road to Chandrika Junction, St John’s Church Road, St John’s Road, Sampige Road, Dattatreya Temple Road, BVK Iyengar Road, Vani Vilas Road, Mavalli Tank Bund Road, DVG Road, Shankar Math Road, PMK Road, Malleswaram Railway Parallel Road, and Dattatreya Temple Road.
