BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is making efforts to increase voter participation, but some people, mainly youngsters, are still hesitant to step out their houses and exercise their vote even though the voting booth may be just 100 metres away from their houses even though the aged, physically challenged, illiterate are more enthusiastic in exercising their franchise.
A section of people may hesitate to vote over issues like lack of parking space or the need to stand in queues under the hot sun. Therefore, the BBMP is developing a new app (software) called Queue management and Parking management to enable voters know the status of the queue at a particular booth sitting in their homes so that they can plan their visit.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, “Special commissioner Ujwal Kumar Ghosh and IT department chief Suryasen are working on this project. People can check the status of the queue in front of polling booths and get information about available parking space in their voting centres. The app will be launched before the election. The software has already been launched in other states during election. Let’s see how the software can help improve voting percentage in Bengaluru”.
