BENGALURU: Dumping construction debris by the roadside? Be careful. Henceforth, people dumping debris and garbage by the roadside will be fined by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Many roads in the Silicon City have become dumping sites. Locals have complained about this to the BBMP officials many times, but nothing was done about it. Now, the officials are on their toes after Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar issued strict orders to officials to crack down on such illegal dumping.
Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, who went on the rounds of the city recently, took the officers to task on the issue of dumping of construction debris everywhere. He also warned that strict action will be taken against rule violators in all the BBMP zones in the coming days.
Following the order, the BBMP zonal officials have got down to the field and started imposing fines on people who dump debris on the roadside and those who transport the debris and waste in vehicles to be dumped illegally.
The officials have conducted operations in many places including Nagarbavi Ring Road in the city, and have also warned drivers who carry debris in their vehicles not to dump it on the road.
