BBMP staffer loses Rs 3 lakh cash kept in two-wheeler glove box, police on lookout for thief

BENGALURU: A Group D employee of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) at Byatarayanapura lost Rs 3 lakh which he had kept in the glove box of his scooter parked right in front of his office. The theft occurred a few days ago and the police are now on the lookout for the thieves.

Gurumurthy had withdrawn Rs 3 lakh from the Bank of Baroda branch at Amruthahalli for the wedding of his nephew which was scheduled for November 13. When he went inside the bank, a thief punctured a tyre of Gurumurthy’s scooter.

When Gurumurthy noticed this after he came out, he kept the money in the glove compartment and got the puncture fixed at a shop nearby. He then went to his office. Half an hour later, he came out to find that the money in the glove box was missing.

The thief takes the plastic bag containing the cash and flees with an accomplice waiting on a motorcycle.

Immediately, Gurumurthy checked CCTV footage when the theft came to light. The footage shows a man entering the office compound and loitering for a while. He then moves towards the scooter and quickly takes away the money which was kept in the glove box. He then escapes with another man who was waiting for him at the gate on a motorcycle.

Gurumurthy lodged a complaint with the Amruthahalli police who are now on the lookout for the thief and his accomplice.
