BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which launched a crackdown on pubs, bars and restaurants in the city following the major fire incident at Mudpipe Cafe in Koramangala, has so far shut down 54 pubs for violation of fire safety norms.
Over the last six days, the BBMP has been conducting inspections across the city and has so far checked, 1,058 pubs, bars and restaurants. Of these, 492 have been served notices. On Wednesday alone, 234 pubs, bars and restaurants were inspected and 122 of them were issued notices and six shut down.
On the first day of the drive on October 20, Palike officials issued notices to 12 establishments and shut them down. The next day, 21 pubs, bars and restaurants were given notices and closed while on October 22, 10 were served notices and shut. On October 23 and 25, 11 establishments were inspected and closed, officials said.
