BENGALURU: Tech city Bengaluru is besieged with its own problems like unsafe footpaths, potholed and dug-up roads, dangerously hanging cables and uncleared garbage among a few. Now Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also in charge of Bengaluru development has given the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) 100 days to sort out all that plagues the city.

Newly-laid footpaths too are in bad shape in the city.

The Deputy CM, who went around the city about a week ago, had issues instructions to the officials to find a solution to the garbage menace. The BBMP is now coming up with an action plan to beautify the city by repairing broken footpaths, fixing potholes on roads and clearing the streets of illegal cables.

Palike chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, ” We will hold weekly meetings with our zonal commissioner and chief engineers. We will follow up on the decisions taken in the previous meeting and plan for the next week. Over the last two weeks, we have been focusing on revenue generation and targets for property tax collection has been increased by 50 per cent for all the zones to begin with”.

The BBMP chief commissioner also said, “Several ‘B’ khatas have been illegally changed to ‘A’ and more than 11,000 cases have been detected. The zonal commissioners are preparing a report. Meanwhile, the khatas are being converted back to ‘B’ khatas and necessary action will be taken. If revenue officers do not meet targets, they will be transferred to other zones or posted in non-executive roles”.

BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said they will take up work in all the eight zones.

“As regards monsoon preparedness, we have identified 198 spots and 226 points were pointed out by the KSNDMC. We have already come up with permanent solutions at these places, but since there are some deficiencies, we will check if there is any obstruction to water flow. We are making preparations for the 100 day programme, as directed by the Deputy CM, and we will submit a report”, he said.

Tushar Giri Nath explained that under the 100 days programme, they will remove all garbage black spots, fix all broken footpaths. “We will also give inputs to the Deputy CM on what other works we can complete”, he said.
