BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike owes Rs 5 crore to civic workers who carried out mosquito fogging services in the city.

The civic workers have filed a complaint at the Halasuru Gate police station alleging harassment by BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance) Jayaram Raipura when they went to ask for the Rs 5 crore arrears due to them over the last two years. The workers claimed that when they went to the BBMP Special Commissioner’s office to appeal for release of the bill amounts, they were manhandled and pushed them out by marshals.

“We have been doing this work for many years and no one has complained against our service. The cost of the service for a month is Rs 30,000–40,000, and we have been doing this for many years. The BBMP has called for tenders for 198 wards. We only want the pending dues”, said Mohan K, president of the civic workers’ federation.

“We had called tenders for 198 wards and a new tender will be called for 248 wards in the coming days. The civic workers came to our office and started to raise a din even after all explanation was given to them. I have not mistreated anyone”, claimed Jayaram Raipura, BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance), defending his actions.
