BBMP evicting vendors from footpaths as part of clearance drive, invites anger

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is cracking down on footpath vendors in all the eight zones as part of a clearance drive, earning the ire of the traders.

Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has issued orders to clear footpaths of encroachments in all the zones and the officials are mostly evicting footpath vendors in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru South and Bengaluru East zones. Oral instructions have also been issued to evict footpath vendors in Jayanagar also.

The Palike had earlier cleared footpaths in Mahadevapura and Malleswaram, leading to anger among the traders. The footpath vendors are planning to meet the BBMP chief commissioner and appeal to him not to evict them.
