BBMP clarifies no increase in property tax from April 1, says don’t pay attention to fake videos

BENGALURU: After a fake video claiming that property tax in BBMP limits is increasing from April 1, 2024, the Chief Commissioner of BBMP, Tushar Giri Nath, has clarified that the video that is circulating is fake and there will be no increase in property tax. The same tax rates as notified in the year 2016 and presently running, will continue.

A video has gone viral saying that the property tax will be increased from April 1, 2024 under BBMP. An individual shared a fake video on the Instagram page ‘index daily’. In the fake video, it is said that BBMP tax will increase 2 times on rental houses and 3-5 times on commercial establishments.

Following the fake video that surfaced on social media, the BBMP clarified saying that citizens are requested not to pay attention to such fake news.

The chief commissioner of the BBMP also wrote to the Bangalore City Police Commissioner to take legal action against those who are spreading false information.
