Basaveshwara poster burnt with cigarette, one arrested

KALABURAGI: The Wadi police have arrested one person for disfiguring a poster of 12th century reformer Basaveshwara by burning holes into it with a cigarette. The arrested was identified as Sharukh of Halakarti village in Chittapur taluk.

Sharukh had allegedly burnt holes into the Basavanna poster on October 12 under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, members of the Lingayat community had staged protests across the district to condemn the act.
