Basanagouda Daddal likely to resign as Valmiki Corporation chairman

BENGALURU: With the Enforcement Directorate heat rising in the alleged multi-crore scam in Valmiki Development Corporation, questions are now being raised if  the corporation chairman Basanagouda Daddal will continue in the post or resign.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is said to be weighing the option of getting Daddal to resign from the post as, if the latter is arrested, it will be a blow not only to him, but also to the ruling party. The Opposition parties have already vociferously raised the issue in the Assembly the CM may be that it would be appropriate for Daddal to resign, sources said.

Daddal has been summoned for investigation by the CID in connection with the irregularities in the corporation. However, he did not appear for the investigation due to fear of arrest. There is a possibility of Daddal’s arrest at any moment and if he is arrested, he may have to resign as chairman of the corporation.

The Chief Minister and Assembly Speaker U T Khader have also hinted at Daddal’s resignation. If Daddal resigns, he will have to face the opposition’s criticism in the Assembly. In this regard, a discussion was held between Daddal, the Chief Minister and Speaker about his resignation. There is  now heightened anxiety over Daddal’s next move in the political circles.
