Bank cashier accused of siphoning off Rs 1.6 cr

BAGALKOT: A cashier at the State Bank of India branch at Navanagar here has been accused of siphoning off Rs 1.6 crore from the bank chest. The theft came to light when the money in the chest was being counted.

The bank has since suspended the cashier Santhosh Kabade and a few other employees.

It is believed that Santhosh transferred the money in the chest to his account and that of his wife, mother and other relatives. He is also suspected to have indulged in other misappropriation.

The branch manager has lodged a complaint with the CEN police station. The police have examined CCTV footage and a team from Bengaluru has also arrived to assit the investigation.
