Bangalore University student who fell from BMTC bus succumbs to injuries

BENGALURU: A post-graduate student, who fell while boarding a bus on October 10 on the Bangalore University campus, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning after two weeks of battle. The deceased has been identified as Shilpa Shree R (22), a resident of Kolar district.

Earlier, the student accidentally fallen from the moving bus and sustained serious injuries while trying to board it. She was admitted to Fortis hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to the injuries around 4 am. The mortal remains were sent to her hometown after the post-mortem examination.

“We got the information that she passed away around 4 am. After the accident, we admitted her to Nagarbhavi Fortis hospital, but later she was shifted to Bannerghatta Fortis hospital. She had to undergo several surgeries and also had an infection. She belonged to a poor family and studied hard. Her last rites will be in her village,” said C D Venkatesh, Director of Student’s Welfare (DSW), Bangalore University.

The university students had staged a protest by closing the university gate and had restricted public entry. The BBMP officials installed speed breakers to avoid accidents. The medical expenses of the student were looked after by the BMTC department.
