TUMAKURU: An autorickshaw driver allegedly attempted to rape a seven-year-old orphan girl in broad daylight on Thursday. The accused, identified as Shafi, is a resident of Goods Shed Colony, Shantinagar in Tumakuru. The incident took place under Kyatsandra police limits.
The accused Shafi allegedly molested a seven-year-old girl who was walking near the bus stand around 1 pm on Thursday. He tried to lure her, took her to a deserted area in his autorikshaw and attempted to rape the minor girl.
After learning that Shafi had taken the girl, locals followed him and caught him red-handed. The girl was rescued and the accused was handed over to the police.
A case has been registered against the accused in the local police station and further investigation is on. The girl, an orphan, survives by begging at the railway station and bus station in Tumakuru.
