HASSAN: An attempt to kill a gram panchayat member by setting his house on fire was made at Markuli village in the taluk on Friday. Luckily, he escaped from the house.
Gram panchayat member Naganna is allegedly involved in a land dispute. On Friday night, when he was sleeping alone at home, his rivals dumped corn cobs at his front door, bolted it from outside and set the cobs on fire. However, Naganna noticed the fire through a window and escaped from the house.
The gram panchayat member blamed one Ravi of the same village for the act. The Shantigrama police visited the spot and have taken up investigation.
