Assam govt attempts to create Guinness World Record by distributing largest number of seedlings

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Sunday attempted to create another Guinness World Record for distributing the largest number of seedlings in one day at one venue at Veterinary College Field, Khanapara in Guwahati.

According to the Assam Government, it is over 22 km long line of seedlings in a spiral pattern with over 3.2 lakh saplings.

According to the Assam Forest department, they will attempt to distribute over 3 lakh seedlings at Veterinary College Field, Khanapara in Guwahati by today evening among the women, Self Help Groups (SHGs), students, security personnel etc.

Satyendra Singh, Additional PCCF of Assam Forest department told ANI that, the distribution of seedlings process started at 8-30 am on Sunday and as of now more than 1.40 lakh seedlings have been distributed.

“We are attempting to create a Guinness World Record of the largest number of seedlings distributed in one day at one venue. The officials of the Guinness World Record are also here and they are analyzing it. Yesterday, we have arranged the largest line of seedlings in a spiral pattern in a 22 km line with more than 3.2 lakh saplings. The officials of Guinness World Record are also analysis this,” Satyendra Singh said.

He further said that the state government will also attempt to create 7 more Guinness World Records by September 17. Under the Amrit Brikshya Andolan, the Assam government is aiming to plant 1 crore saplings across the state on September 17.

On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, from Saturday, Amrit Brikshya Andolan has started in Assam.

“This Amrit Brikshya Andolan will be continued till September 17 and during the time, we are trying to create 9 Guinness World Records. Yesterday we arranged a 22 km long line in spiral pattern with more 3,20,432 saplings. We hope that it will create a new Guinness World Record. Today we want to distribute 3.20 lakh saplings from one venue and the earlier world record was 78,000,” the CM said.

“Today we have gathered to break the previous record. Tomorrow we will try to gather the highest participation in the online curriculum of environmental issues and tree plantation. On September 13 and 14, we want to plant 12 lakh saplings in Udalguri and it will become another record for planting highest number of saplings within 24 hours. On September 25, one team will plant 3.5 lakh saplings on 25 hectares of land in Dibrugarh. On September 16, we will attempt to create another record of planting a tree mosaic of the Assam map in Margherita,” he added.

He said that on September 17, about one crore saplings will be planted across the state.

“The people will take photo while planting saplings and they will upload them in our portal and we want to create the biggest online photo album. Next year we will make it more bigger and we will try to create 3 crore photo album,” Assam CM said.

“All the saplings which are planted now in non-forest areas and also it has huge commercial value. So it will boost up the tree economy, tree cover in non-forest area and also rejuvenate our wood-based industry after some point of time,” he added. (ANI)
