KALABURAGI: A day after Public TV reported about the state of neglect of the Someshwara temple in the northeast side of the Bahamani fort here, the Archaeological Survey of India deployed workers to clean the place and rid it of bushes and brambles.

The temple pillars have carvings of Shiva-Parvathi, Nandi, elephants, peacocks. During the clean-up, some carvings of the Chalukyan era were also found.

In 2009-10, the then BJP government had allocated Rs 4 crore for development of the Bahamani fort. During that time, restoration of the Someshwara temple had also been taken up under the supervision of the then secretary of the Kalyana Karnataka Development Board, Shalini Rajneesh.

The temple portico was cleared of mud and the pillars were also numbered. However, due to apprehensions, people did not visit the temple and it again became dilapidated.
