BENGALURU: Hindu groups have vented their ire controversial writer and retired professor K S Bhagawan for his recent comments on Lord Rama, and demanded action against him.
Leaders of Hindu groups have said that Bhagawan has previously hurt Hindu sentiments by making derogatory remarks on Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita. The writer is on conditional bail in the case and the government should move the court to cancel his bail, they said.
“He has committed an unpardonable offence and he should be arrested immediately. Nowadays, anybody can trample on Hindu sentiments and get away with it, which is unfortunate. This is happening because Hindus are peace-loving. Nobody has the courage to talk about other communities. It the government does not take action, we will stage a statewide agitation”, said Mohan Gowda, state spokesperson of Hindu Janajagriti Samiti.
Speaking after releasing seven books authored by N M Thimme Gowda at KR Pet in Mandya district last Thursday, Bhagawan had said, “There is talk about building a Rama Rajya and it was Mahatma Gandhi who was responsible for propagating this idea. If one reads the Uttara Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana, it will be come evident that Rama was not an ideal. He did not rule for 11,000 years, but only for 11 years. He used to spend the forenoon chatting with some priests and in the afternoon, he would sit with Sita and they both would spend the rest of the day drinking”.
