Andrahalli govt school headmistress suspended after Class 6 students made to clean toilet

Some students of Class 6 were made to clean the school toilet.

BENGALURU: Close on the heels of students of the Morarji Desai Residential School in Kolar being made to clean the septic tanks, an instance where students of a government primary school at Andrahalli in Yeshwatpur being made to clean the toilet has come to light.

Angry parents gathered in front of the school on Friday and staged a protest. Bengaluru North DDPI Lokeshwar Reddy ordered sthe suspension of the school headmistress Lakshmidevi based on the report submitted by the Block Education Officer (BEO) Anjinappa who visited the school and spoke to the children. The Byadarahalli police also visited the school.

Some students of Class 6 were reportedly asked to clean the school toilet with acid. The BEO told the protesting parents that he had spoken to the children and informed the DDPI.

Parents staged a protest outside the school on Friday.

Meanwhile, headmistress Lakshmidevi claimed that she was on leave and that she had not directed the children to clean the toilet. “This is a conspiracy by senior teacher Sharadamma. She got the children to clean the toilet and shot a video. Those who are protesting are not even the parents of children of our school”, she claimed.

Opposition leader in the Assembly, R Ashoka, who visited the school, said, “”…This is a governmentt school and cleaning of toilets is happening. For the last five to six months children have been cleaning toilets. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s government is the worst. Nobody is following the rules and regulations.Immediate suspension should happen”.

BJP MLA S T Somashekar also said strict action should be taken against those guilty.
