BENGALURU: To compete with the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), the Anand Milk Union Limited (Amul) has announced its intention to enter the market and sell milk and curd through online portals, but it has received a lot of backlash from citizens.

After Amul announced about the supply of its products in the city, Kannadigas have expressed outrage against the move on social media. They also claimed that Amul was riding on the back of KMF to sell its products in the state. Currently, Amul sells butter, cheese, ice cream and toned milk in the state along with KMF which has numerous other products. Netizens also suspected that the shortage of milk cropped up after it was planned to start selling Amul products in the city.

Kannadigas have started an online campaing with hastags of #GoBackAmul, #BoycottAmul, and #SaveNandini to protest against Amul’s decision. The KMF’s Nandini brand is an emotion for Kannadigas. Puneeth Rajkumar was a brand ambassador of Nandini for many years and citizens are upset over Amul’s entry into the state.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah too joined the #SaveNandini online campaign. In a series of tweets, he said, “Beware of @PMOIndia @narendramodi @HMOIndia @AmitShah & their double engine govt!! They will sell all the assets belonging to Kannadigas. After destroying our banks, they are now determined to destroy Nandini KMF – a brand built by our farmers. #SaveNandini”, he said.
