BENGALURU: Senior IPS officer Alok Mohan on Monday took charge as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) from Praveen Sood who has been named the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). All senior IPS officers and family members of Alok Mohan and Praveen Sood were present on the occasion.

Praveen Sood handed over charge by passing on the baton.

Speaking after taking charge, Alok Mohan said efforts to give good police administration will continue and added that the Karnataka police are considered among the best in the country. “Stress will be on crime investigation and detection. The police should work in an unbiased manner and employ the latest technologies. They should focus on easing traffic on highways and in the cities. There will be heightened watch on organised crime and efforts will be made to rid the state of the drug menace”.

Earlier, Alok Mohan received a guard of honour.

The new head of police force also said that more CEN police stations will be set up and all police personnel will be given cyber training. Strict action will be taken against police personnel who indulge in criminal activities, he added.

Meanwhile, outgoing DG&IGP Praveen Sood was given a ceremonial send-off at the KSRP parade grounds in Koramangala. All ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs and SP were present. Sood has served with the Karnataka police for 37 years and is the third IPS officer from the state to be appointed as CBI director. He will take charge on May 25.
