BENGALURU: With the political heat rising ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, curious developments in the state BJP are raising eyebrows. On Friday, senior party leader V Somanna met former chief minister Yediyurappa after four years at the latter’s residence. Both were seen greeting each other and Somanna presented a bouquet to the former CM during the visit.

Somanna had last met Yediyurappa almost four years ago when the latter was chief minister. The meeting after many years has raised curiosity in party circles. It is said that Somanna requested Yediyurappa to forget all the past differences and extend support to him.

Somanna had been opposing Yediyurappa and his son B Y Vijayendra so far, but his visit ahead of the Lok Sabha elections has set off much speculation in political circles. Jagadish Shettar, who recently returned to the BJP, was also present on the occasion. It is said that Shettar had intervened to sort out differences between Yediyurappa and Somanna.

After lying low, Somanna has started a fresh journey with Yediyurappa and the BJP after his defeat in last year’s Assembly polls. With this sudden development, Somanna has surprised party leaders of Tumakuru who are opposing him contesting from that parliamentary seat.

Now, Somanna will be looking to portray that he has the support of Yediyurappa, which is being seen as a clear strategy to send a message to Lingayat voters in Tumakuru. It is being said that a clear route will be chalked out  for the upcoming election through Yediyurappa’s visit.
