DAVANAGERE: Tension prevailed at the Valmiki Jathre held here on Thursday evening after fans of Sandalwood actor ‘Kiccha’ Sudeep resorted to breaking chairs after the Valmiki Peetha seer announced that the actor would not be participating in the programme.

The actor’s fans broke chairs and tried to barge towards the dais.

The fans were eagerly waiting for the actor and when they came to know that he will not be attending the event, they created a major ruckus and even attempted to barge towards the dais, prompting the police to resort to mild lathicharge.

Davanagere SP C B Ryshyanth warned the crowd against resorting to violence.

The fans interrupted the speech of Congress leader Siddaramaiah. Several others including Satish Jarkiholi were present at the event. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who arrived later, addressed the gathering and said he would speak to the actor personally to appear before the fans.

Following the incident, Sudeep on Friday tweeted, appealing to his fans to maintain calm and stating that he would meet them in the coming days. He also clarified that he was not invited for the event and that he was not even aware of the Valmiki Jathre.
