Active satellite phones in Dharmastala, Bhramavara ring alarm bells

MANGALURU, UDUPI: The Internal Security Division has informed the police department about activated satellite phones near Mandarthi in Brahmavara taluk and in Belthangady. On Sunday, police descended on the place where the satellite phone was said to be active to investigate.

Police officials investigating the area where a satellite phone was reported to be active in Dharmasthala.

The Internal Security Police informed the Udupi police about the activation of a satellite phone on November 9. According to the information, the satellite phone rang near Mandarthi Durgaparameshwari Temple. The police traced the location and investigated the area.

Dharmasthala police station PSI Anil Kumar and his team investigating a satellite phone call recieved on Shariq’s phone which was made from Thotattadi village.

A satellite phone was also activated in Dharmasthala and PSI Anil Kumar and his team investigated the Bendral forest area in Thotattadi village. It is believed that a phone call was made to Shariq before the bomb blast via satellite phone from this area. Villagers reported to the police that they heard a loud noise in the night about 7-8 days ago. Police source said that no specific information about calls have been confirmed so far.

Earlier, in 2020, a satellite phone was operational in the district. Satellite phones were also active in Kollur, Hebri and Jaddinagadde.
