BENGALURU: The widown of a senior scientist, who was living in Bannerghatta in Bengaluru, has been duped of property worth Rs 1.2 crore by an acquaintance.

Ramalakshmi (76) is the wife of late scientist Venkateshwarulu, who used to work alongside Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. Venkateshwarulu died in 2014 and their two children live in Bannerghatta and Chennai.

Raghavendra, who used to work with Venkateshwarulu, somehow gained Ramalakshmi’s trust saying that he would look after her since she was aged. He then managed to get her to sign a gift deed in his favour for a house in Basaveshwaranagar and a site in Hyderabad.

When Ramalakshmi underwent an operation some time ago, he took 60 gm of her jewellery saying that she will not be allowed to wear it in the operation theatre. Later, when she inquired about it, he told her that he had handed it to her children. He had even managed to draw money from her bank account.

Rajalakshmi has now lodged a complaint with the Basaveshwara Nagar police.
