Accused in Udupi quadruple murder arrested from Raibagh taluk

CHIKKODI/UDUPI: Two days after the murder of four members of a family in Udupi, the police arrested the suspect in a swift operation on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Praveen alias Arun Chougule, was arrested from Kudachi in Raibagh taluk in Belagavi district based on his mobile tower location. Praveen, who hails from Sangli in Maharashtra, was at the residence of an irrigation department official in Kudachi after committing the murder of four people on Sunday.

He was about to leave for Maharashtra today when he was arrested by the police in a quick operation with the help of the Kudachi police. Praveen was working as a CRPF security guard at the Mangaluru airport.

Four members of a family — Hasina (46), daughters Afnan (23), Aynaz (21) and son Asim (12) — were stabbed to death by an unidentified person with a sharp object at Tripti Nagar in Nejar near Santekatte on Sunday. The attacker fled from the house after committing the murders.

The Udupi police had recovered CCTV footage and mobile phones of the deceased, as well as from the husband and son of Hasina.
