Accident victim lies writhing in pain, 108 service says no ambulance available

BENGALURU: In yet another shocking case of apathy, an accident victim lay on the road with no ambulance turning up for long on East End Road in Jayanagar on Tuesday. The victim, who had sustained injury in the leg, lay writing in pain till some passersby called a cab and managed to shift him to hospital.

When some onlookers call the 108 ambulance service, they were told that no vehicle was available at that time. Locals claimed that even the emergency helpline 112 did not respond properly.

Mohan, a local, who put out a video message, said, “Between 8.45 am and 9 am, two two-wheelers collided head on. One of the riders was going to Jayadeva hospital to see a relative. The victim had sustained leg injury and some of those who had gathered at the spot called 108, but there was no proper response. When we called 112, no immediate help was available. Then, a person called a cab to shift the person to hospital”.

He rued the apathetic attitude of the ambulance staff and the emergency services and called for better services to help save the lives of accident victims.
