Former minister K S Eshwarappa dismissed the complaint against him as a publicity gimmick.

SHIVAMOGGA: Aam Admi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police against former RDPR Minister K S Eshwarappa for his remarks on hoisting the saffron flag, replacing the national flag.

In his complaint with the North Avenue police, Sanjay Singh said Eshwarappa’s recent statement in Shivamogga was an insult to the national flag. He has also demanded the arrest of the former minister.

At a recent press conference, Eshwarappa had said the saffron flag may flutter atop the Red Fort in a few hundred years from now.

At a recent press conference, Eshwarappa had said, “The bhagwa flag has a history of thousands of years and is a symbol of sacrifice. For this reason, we pray to the bhagwa flag every day at the RSS shakas. Some day in the future, the bhagwa flag may replace the tricolour.”

Reacting to the development, Eshwarappa said, “I had remarked that in the next 100, 200 or 500 years, someone may hoist the bhagwa flag on the Red Fort and I stand by my statement.

“There is a lot of discussion about Hinduism/Hindutva in the country today. What I said the other day was discussed in the Assembly also. The Chief Minister, Law Minister and the Speaker have clarified that I have not said anything against the law. The Congress has been raising a non-issue. Now, someone has lodged a complaint just for the sake of publicity. Even is 100 such cases are filed, I’m ready to face them”.
