BENGALURU: The Dharwad bench of the Karnataka high court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to senior BJP leader and former CM B S Yediyurappa, who is an accused in a POCSO case.
A single-judge bench of Justice Nagaprasanna has imposed several conditions including furnishing a bond of Rs 5 lakh along with two sureties, not travelling outside Bengaluru without the trial court’s permission, not destroy evidence or threaten witnesses. The court also said that the prosecution can move for cancellation of the anticipatory bail if any of the conditions are breached.
In his petition, Yediyurappa had sought quashing of the case and after hearing the plea, the court had reserved its order for Friday. With the anticipatory bail granted, Yediyurappa will stay out of jail and the trial can commence as the high court rejected the plea to quash the case. The high court also said no precipitative action can be taken against Yediyurappa.
