Family attacked at home by armed gang in Ballari, police on lookout for accused

BALLARI: A gang of over 10 criminals barged into a house at Bapuji Nagar, broke open the door and attacked a family with deadly weapons on the night of January 31. They also damaged some a two-wheeler parked outside and several videos of the incident have been shared widely on social media.

Market Raja and gang had assaulted a 14-year-old relative of Srinivas following which the latter had lodged a complaint with the police. A counter-complaint had also been registered by Market Raja’s men. However, in a show of his supremacy, Raja and his gang barged into the house of Srinivas D and assaulted his family members, leaving them, including his aged mother Gowramma injured. All the injured were treated at a hospital.

“As we were returning from the police station after lodging a complaint, Raja and his men followed us home and attacked us. I went inside and locked the door, but they broke open the door, but I blocked the door with an almirah”, Srinivas said.

“They didn’t relent even after we told them that we have small children. They were armed with iron rods, knives, wooden logs and even chilli powder. We later got hospitalised”, Priyanka, Srinivas’ wife. “If the police had not arrived on time, they would have killed us. We are all terrified now. The police should arrest them and protect us”, said Kamakshi, Priyanka’s mother.

Srinivas said the gang had created an atmosphere in the locality and demanded that they should be arrested immediately. The gang includded Raja, Nandish, Mahesh, Suri, Hale Kote Raja, Chinna, Pandu, Mahesh, among others, he said. The Brucepet police are on the lookout for the accused.
