Suspended Madhugiri Deputy SP gets bail in one case of sexaul assault, arrested in second case

TUMAKURU: Suspended Madhugiri Deputy SP Ramachandrappa, who was in judicial custody in a case related to sexual assault of a woman in his chamber, was granted bail by the sessions court in Madhugiri. However, he was arrested again in a second case.

Ramachandrappa was first arrested and suspended after a video, which allegedly showed him sexually assaulting a woman who approached him with a complaint, went viral on social media. The Deputy SP’s act was recorded by a person from outside the toilet window.

After the first case was registered, another woman lodged a complaint with the Madhugiri police against the officer following which an FIR was registered. The incident is said to have occurred on August 5.

The victim, who hails from Madhugiri, works at a garment unit in Bengaluru. In her complaint, she noted that she had been cheated of money by an individual who had promised to get her a site. She had then approached the women’s commission which directed Deputy SP Ramachandrappa to investigate the case.

The victim said that on the pretext of recording her statement, Ramachandrappa called her to his office and sexually assaulted her in the toilet. When she started crying, he gave her Rs 500 and told her not to reveal about the incident to anyone, the complaint stated.

Ramachandrappa was released on bail in the first case on Monday, but was arrested again in the second case and sent back to jail.
