Tension grips BIMS hospital after another maternal mortality case

BALLARI: The death toll due to maternal mortality continues to rise in the district with citizens widely expressing anger against doctors.

Recently, three women died after undergoing a cesarean section at the district hospital. Another pregnant Muskan (22), a native of Hosapete, died on Monday night. Following this, the incidents of pregnant women dying after giving birth at BIMS Hospital has come to light.

In the latest incident, Mahalakshmi (20) of Halasagar village in Kudli taluk had a normal delivery on Sunday andgave birth to a baby boy. Mahalakshmi’s health deteriorated after giving birth, so she was kept in the ICU and treated for three days.

The family members have alleged that Mahalakshmi died due to the medical negligence of the doctors. They have complained that Mahalakshmi was fine before being brought to the hospital.

BIMS Director Gangadhar Gowda clarified in this regard that Mahalakshmi had anemia. “They first ttook her to the Kudligi Primary Health Center, where her health deteriorated. Then they brought her here. We had informed her earlier and put in our best efforts”, he claimed.
