BENGALURU: The Rajajinagar police have arrested Punith Gowda, owner of the MY IV Electric showroom and manager Yuvaraj, in connection with the fire at the showroom in Rajajinagar which claimed the life of a woman employee on Tuesday.
They were absconding ever since the incident. Police produced them before the magistrate court today, which granted them bail. The Rajajinagar police had booked a case against them for negligence.
A fire broke out at an electric bike showroom around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. The fire broke out from the battery of an electric scooter and soon engulfed the showroom, claiming the life of Priya, who was to celebrate her birthday on Wenesday. Three others who were injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Police have recorded their statements and are investigating further.
The victim Priya’s father, Arumugam has demanded justice for his daughter’s death. The family has demanded action against the company and the accused. Arumugam said, “Today she would have turned 26 and was supposed to celebrate her birthday. We had purchased clothes for her. We had plans to celebrate her birthday today and go to a temple to spend quality time with family, but instead, we’re mourning her death”.
Armugam said, “She was the backbone of our family, supporting us financially and taking care of household responsibilities. Priya was the head of the firm with 20 employees. How can the company could be so careless with my daughter’s life? he asked.
“They didn’t even call us to inform us about the accident. We learnt about it through television news”, he said. “We demand justice and punishment for those responsible”, Armugam added.
