UDUPI: A Congress leader’s son has been arrested by the Shirva police for his involvement in a hit-and-run case and reckless driving at Belapu Colony in Kaup.

Congress leader Deviprasad Shetty’s son, Prajwal Shetty, is accused of killing a bike rider. The victim was identified as Mohammed Hussain (39). The accident occurred on November 11 at 5 am. CCTV footage shows Prajwal’s reckless driving caused the accident. He fled the scene, but was later arrested by Shirva police.

Mohammed Hussain’s father, Ummarabba, said Prajwal Shetty came in a speeding car, hit his son’s bike. As a result, he fell into the drain after three flips and was lying in a pool of blood for an hour.

After hitting the bike, Prajwal Shetty escaped from the spot. The victim’s parents had admitted him to a hospital immediately, but he succumbed to injuries. If he had been admitted to the hospital soon after the accident, his son would have survived, Ummarabba claimed.

Father Ummarabba said, “We admitted our son to the hospital at 6 am. We have lost a son, who was the pillar of the family. We need justice from the police department. The accused should be punished severely. My son died due to Prajwal’s negligence”.

The parents of the deceased demanded justice and severe punishment for the accused.
