CHITRADURGA: Residents of a slum in Vijayanagara Layout here staged a protest overnight against the eviction notices issued by the municipal authorities. The protesters included women and children and they continued their sit-in on Saturday too.
The Chitradurga City Municipal Council had issued eviction notices to residents of illegal sheds and tiled roof houses after two other residents of the locality had complained of construction on the Vijayanagar road and pointed out that it obstructed movement of residents.
Following the complaint, the municipal council issued eviction notices on November 7. However, the residents of the slum area claimed that they had been residing there for several years and staged a protest.
