BENGALURU : The Congress high command has announced candidates for Sandur and Channapatna bypolls on Wednesday. E Annapurna is contesting from Sandur and CP Yogeshwar from Channapatna constituency. Shiggaon remains the only constituency where the announcement is pending.
C P Yogeshwara is a five-time former MLA from Channapatna, the seat vacated by Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy after he won the Lok Sabha polls, resigned from BJP on Monday and joined the Congress party on Wednesday morning.
The Channapatnna seat is seen as a big fight between the states’ two most powerful Vokkaliga leaders, Deputy CM Dk Shivakumar and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy. The Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposals to nominate candidates for the by-elections.
