BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader CT Ravi on Tuesday slammed the ruling Congress in Karnataka over the problem of water-logging in Bengaluru, adding that the state had multiple ponds but has now been destroyed under the Congress government in the state.
“Earlier, Bengaluru used to have thousands of ponds, who looted all, who earned money through that? They are looting (us). Bengaluru, despite being an international city is in such a condition, who is responsible?” Ravi said.
Reacting on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement about providing compensation for the damages done by surprise rains, Ravi took a dig at the Chief Minister and said that he had given a very irresponsible statement. “You can’t find a solution to the (water-logging) problem despite being smart,” he said.
Earlier, residents of the Kendirya Vihar apartment complex in Yelahanka were evacuated with the help of boats after heavy rains and water-logging. The unexpected and heavy rains have caused trouble for the residents in many areas of the city. An NDRF official informed that nearly 2,000 to 3,000 people were stuck in one apartment complex, while there were almost 300 people stuck in another part of the complex.
“We have been suffering for the last two weeks. I have small children and we need a permanent solution to the problem,” a resident said.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal Secular attacked the Karnataka CM and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, taking a dig at their “visionary” governance.
JDS wrote on X, “Welcome to *Brand Bengaluru*! Where a physically challenged woman falling into a pothole during heavy rains is just another day in paradise. While @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakumar keep patting themselves on the back for their ‘visionary’ governance, the city’s crumbling infrastructure is doing all the talking. BBMP’s mastery in turning roads into death traps is unmatched. *Bravo* on setting new standards of neglect and irresponsibility.”(ANI)
