The police seized gold and silver articles worth Rs 98 lakh.

DHARWAD: The Dharwad Rural police have arrested a man who was carrying gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 98 lakh in a private bus without any documents from Mumbai to Hubballi. The arrested is Bhavarsingh Chouhan who hails from Rajasthan and is a resident of Duragadbail in Hubballi.

While one of the couriers has been arrested, the police are on the lookout for the other.

North zone IGP Vikash Kumar Vikas said that based on specific information, the police stopped the bus near Narendra Cross in Dharwad and seized the gold and silver articles. Though it was initially suspected that the seized articles could be worth Rs 2 crore, it has been valued at Rs 98 lakh, the officer clarified.

Bhavarsingh Chouhan was carrying the gold and silver articles in a bag which was kept in a suitcase. This included 1.23 kg of gold including biscuits and 15 kg of silver articles. He did not have any documents for the articles and was arrested.

The IGP said Bhavarsingh was working as a courier along with another courier, Narpalsingh Balhot, who also hails from Rajasthan and settled in Hubballi. The latter is absconding and the police are making efforts to trace him, the IGP added.
