BENGALURU: Close on the heels of the rise in prices of kitchen staples like onions and garlic, now the prices of tomato have almost doubled in the city’s markets.

Last week, tomato was selling for Rs 40 per kg which has doubled to Rs 80 per kg since Friday and the price is expected to rise further in the coming days.

A crate of tomato is selling for anywhere between Rs 50 and Rs 100.

The price rise is being blamed on unseasonal rains. The price of onions has already touched Rs 70 per kg while garlic is being sold at Rs 500 per kg. Amidst the festival season, the price rise has come as a dampener for families.
