The IAF helicopter took off a good 18 hours after it made an emergency landing.

KOLAR: An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter, which had made an emergency landing on a lake bund at Karapanahalli near Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) while on a sortie due to a technical error, on Monday flew to Chennai after 18 hours.

The helicopter was covered in tarpaulin overnight and repair work taken up on Monday morning.

The chopper, carrying three IAF personnel including a woman pilot, made an emergency landing around 4 pm on Sunday after some technical error was detected. It was on its way from Yelahanka Air Force station to Chennai.

Another helicopter brought in IAF technical personnel on Sunday evening.

On Sunday evening, six IAF technical personnel arrived at the site in another helicopter and stayed overnight after covering the helicopter with tarpaulin. Military Police personnel were also present at the scene.

The team worked on the helicopter Sunday night and again on Monday morning to rectify the error and around 10 am, it made a small round. After more checks and exchanging papers with the Karapanahalli gram panchayat authorities that no damage had been done at the site where the helicopter landed, the aircraft finally took off.
