BENGALURU: The Defence ministry has granted 12.34 acres of land to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for road widening from Lower Agaram to Sarjapur, with another 10.77 acres approved, said Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.

Shivakumar met with Commandant Lt Gen Basant Kumar Repswal, ASC Centre and College, at Vidhana Soudha, followed by a press conference today.

Shivakumar, addressing the press meet, said travel time from MG Road to Bellandur will reduce to 5-8 minutes after road construction, which previously took around one hour. This will alleviate traffic congestion in Bellandur, Ejipura and Agaram areas.

“The Defence Ministry has responded to our request, allocating 22 acres of land for road development. The first phase of the 3.50 km project, estimated cost at Rs 35 crore, will ease traffic congestion to IT hubs and eastern Bengaluru”, Shivakumar said.

“The BBMP has invited Lt  Gen Basant Kumar Repswal, who retires on September 30, to acknowledge his cooperation. This project will greatly benefit Bengaluru’s citizens, especially those traveling to IT hubs and eastern Bengaluru”, Shivakumar said.

“After taking charge of Bengaluru’s city development, I heard the concerns of residents from Bellandur and surrounding IT hub. I received 8-10 daily emails about traffic congestion. Following site visits and inspections with officials, we’ve found a solution”, he announced.

The defence ministry agreed to allocate 22 acres for road development, with 12.34 acres already handed over to BBMP and another 10.77 acres pending.
