Man stripped and assaulted, accused shot in leg by police during escape bid

BENGALURU: History-sheeter Pawan alias Kadubu, who had allegedly stripped a man and assaulted him, was shot in the leg by the police early on Tuesday morning near Jnana Bharathi Layout in Ullal.

Sources said that when the police tried to arrest Pawan, he attacked head constable Venkatesh with a knife in a bid to escape. In self-defence, the police inspector of Govindaraj Nagar shot Pawan in the leg with his service revolver.

The accused Pawan had brutally assaulted a man 10-12 days ago, stripping him of clothes and threatening him in Sunkadakatte near Hill Rock Public School in Ullal. Pawan also made a video of the henious incident. The victim, however, managed to escape and save life. The incident came to light after ten days, when the video of the assault went viral on social media.

Pawan was wanted in multiple cases and had been absconding after the incident. The Kamakshipalya police had registered a case and were on the lookout for him. He has been arrested now and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S Girish, briefing the media about the incident, said, “The accused Pawan is involved in multiple cases. He was looking for Raghu, who reportedly informed police about his whereabouts. When Pawan and his associates went to assault Raghu, they assaulted his fried Vishwas. This incident was reported at the Kamakshipalya police station. Following this, another video of Pawan stripping and assaulting a man named Nagarjuna went viral. This incident occurred a month ago, but the victim did not file a complaint. Police were searching for Pawan and Nagarjuna. Yesterday, Nagarjuna came to the Kamakshipalya police station and filed a complaint. Vishwas also filed a complaint against Pawan”.

“Two FIRs have been registered against Pawan. Two police teams were formed to search for him under the Inspectors of Kamakshipalya and Govindraj Nagar police stations. Upon receiving information that Pawan was in Ullal and by tracking his phone, police confronted him when he was going on bike and warned him to surrender. However, Pawan attacked Head Constable Venkatesh with a knife. Inspector Subramanya warned him, and when Pawan didn’t surrender, he shot him in the leg to secure him”, the DCP added.

“Currently, both Pawan and Venkatesh are undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital. It is alleged that Pawan stripped the Nagarjuna due to old rivarly, but we don’t have confirmation yet. We are investigating the case”, DCP Girish said.
