Muslim youths pelt stones during Ganesha idol immersion in Nagamangala

MANDYA: Stone were pelted by a group of Muslim youths during the Ganesha idol immersion procession near a dargah on the Mysuru road in Nagamangala on Wednesday.

The Ganesh idol was installed in Badarikoppal, Nagamangala, and was being taken for immersion in a procession. When the procession reached near the dargah, some miscreants pelted stones at the idol. A clash broke out between Hindu and Muslim youths, with both sides engaging in stone-pelting and verbal arguments. Some of them even threatened by flashing sharp weapons at Hindu youths.

The police intervened and controlled the situation, resorting to lathi charge to disburse the crowd.The Hindu youths later staged a protest in front of the police station, demanding action against the miscreants.

Last year too, a similar incident had occurred near the same dargah. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

A video of the stone-pelting is doing the rounds on social media. The police personnel were also targeted by the stone-pelters. One police personnel and a youth were injured in the incident.
