BENGALURU: A drunk man misbehaved policemen for questioning him about consuming alcohol in a public place at night in the jurisdiction of Bandepalya police station.
Sunil Kumar was partying with friends, including a woman, in the late night. Some locals noticed this and informed the police. The police arrived at the place and suggested to the woman to go home for her own safety.
However, Sunil turned on the police, grabbed their clothes, and pulled them. He also used abusive language. A case has been registered at the Bandepalya police station.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Anuchet said, “We have not stopped our campaign against drunk driving. Police inspectors, who are on night rounds supposed to handle these issues. The positivity rate is increasing from the last two to three months. The possibility of accidents after consuming alcohol is more. There is a need to control it, and no one should do that.” “We have started a special drive against drunk driving from Thursday to Sunday”.
“Considering the wome’s safety, we have decided to deploy two women staff at every police station during night to help needy women at night. We found the necessity of having women police staff in maintaining law and order, especially during night and handling drunk women. We have already issued memos to all police stations. Earlier, there was no uniformity for women’s duty”, he said.
There are 50 traffic police stations in the city. Night duty includes police personnel being available in the station, checking drunk driving cases and patrolling. Another is night shift from 9 pm to 2 am for handling crowded nightlife areas, including Indiranagar 100 feet road, Koramangala, Brigade Road, MG Road, Jayanagar and some other areas, Anuchet explained.
“We have increased women police staff to handle women-related issues, victims and to assist in law enforcement”, the officer added.
