BENGALURU: Usually, the electricity bill for a household is around Rs 1,000 per month. But, since the implementation of the Gruha Jyothi scheme, most households have been receiving free electricity.
However, a Bengaluru resident has received an electricity bill of over Rs 5 lakh for one month, leaving him dazed.
The electricity bill for the month of July for a house at Sir M Visvesvaraya Layout in Bengaluru’s Byatarayanapura, is an eye-popping Rs 5,86,736.
The houseowner, Prasanna Kumar Iyengar, was shocked to see the staggering bill amount in the mobile app. This is the second time he has received such a huge bill. In June, he had received a bill of Rs 5,91,087 for the month of May.
Following a complaint, the issue was sorted out that month and then he received a bill for only Rs 214 in the month of July which he paid. Now he has received another bill of Rs 5,86,736 for August. The house owner, who normally receives a Rs 100 or Rs 200 bill, is now panicked and worried about errors in the meter reading.
The house owner Prasanna Kumar has said he has installed a 3 KW solar panel on his terrace since September 2020 and also has a 5 KW battery backup. He claims that he doesn’t use much electricity from the grid. He is planning to file a complaint with the Bescom head office regarding the technical issues over the excessive billing.
Prasanna was disappointed over that Bescom staff did not check the bill before sending it to him.
