CHITRADURGA: A total of 106 sheep were killed in a lightning strike at Jajur village of Challakere taluk on Friday night. Sudden rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning struck the village. The sheep were owned by two shepherds, Anjaneya and Obanna, who lost 90 and 16 sheep, respectively.
The lightning strike has caused huge loss to shepherds, who depend on the sheep for their livelihood. The shepherds have appealed to the authorities to provide compensation.
The Animal Husbandry Department officials visited the spot and conducted post-mortem on the sheep. They have also assured to provide compensation to the affected farmers under the Anugraha scheme.
