BENGALURU: An accused in the murder of Congress member of Anekal municipal council was shot at near Mysorammanadoddi in Anekal taluk early on Wednesday.

The accused Kartik alias JK was hiding in Tamil Nadu after the murder of municipal council member Ravi. When the Anekal police had gone to arrest him, Kartik allegedly attacked police constable Suresh with a sharp weapon.

Anekal Police Inspector Thippeswamy first fired two warning rounds in the air and asked Kartik to surrender. When he did not, Inspector Thippeswamy fired at Kartik’s leg.

Kartik was the main accused in the murder of Anekal municipal council member Ravi after taking him forcefully from his house. He had been absconding for a week. Two teams were formed to arrest him. Karthik was roaming around in some parts of Tamil Nadu and Anekal.

On receiving information that Kartik was hiding in Mysoreammanadoddi, police arrived to arrest him. When they asked him to surrender, Kartik attacked the police with a weapon. In self defense, police shot him in the leg.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nagaraj inspected the incident site and said that the accused, Kartik alias JK was involved in Ravi’s murder. He was involved in four murder cases in Kumbalgod, Bannerghatta and Surya City in Anekal area.

“They had created an atmosphere of fear among the youth. Such rowdyism in Anekal will not be allowed. He was also involved in four other murder cases and several other cases, including theft. After Ravi’s murder, Kartik had posted a status targeting others, saying that ‘you’re next’ to threaten them. Therefore, a team was formed to arrest him. Ravi and Kartik had a rivalry, hence, he killed Ravi to create fear among people”, the Additional SP explained.

“We will take action against those who helped him under the law. We will not allow rowdyism to spread in Anekal. Seven people have already been arrested in this case, and Kartik was absconding”, the ASP added.
